Our bees helped me realize I had a myriad of resources in my backyard to create beautiful bars of soap. Honey sugars contribute to lather. Beeswax makes for a good hard, long lasting bar. Marigold petals add a bright pop of accent color. Sage leaves lend a simple beauty laid on a soap bar's white canvas.

After months of studying the science and art of it all, accompanied by countless library trips, soap blog devouring, and hours upon hours of reading and research, I made my first batch of soap! I delight in any chance to bring the beauty of outside inside, and incorporate it into every day life. So making soaps inspired by nature is something of a dream come true for me, and I hope you'll join me in this adventure.

I am passionate about using natural ingredients, colorants and additives in my soaps. Each bar in this holiday release contains wax or honey from our hives, or ingredients from our garden or larder, or something wildcrafted from the land where I enjoyed my childhood rambles in Michigan.

I am not alone in this venture. My husband, Peter, has been endlessly supportive and played a huge role by using scrap wood to make the most gorgeous soap molds. The hexagon soaps were poured into a mold built with 104 year old lath pulled out of a wall in our home during renovation a few years ago!
